About

Welcome to my blog!
I am Alfonso, a senior bioinformatician specializing in single-cell and transcriptomics analysis. With a strong foundation in transcriptomics, epigenomics, and multi-omics data integration, I have led multiple bioinformatics projects, developing pipelines for scRNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, and complex bioinformatics analyses.
Although I have always been a computer-oriented person, my journey began in the wet lab. As a trained experimental biologist, my first encounters with bioinformatics were not easy—I often found myself struggling to communicate with bioinformaticians, as we seemed to speak different languages. This frustration ultimately became a turning point, leading me to pursue a master’s in bioinformatics.
This dual training—combining hands-on lab experience with computational expertise—has given me a unique perspective. I understand the challenges that non-bioinformaticians face when navigating omics data, and my goal is making bioinformatics more accessible and intuitive for everybody.
Through this blog, I document new approaches, workflows, and tools, both a public notebook, where I document my experiments with new tools and workflows, and a resource hub to help others integrate bioinformatics into their research. After all, the best way to truly understand something is to explain it clearly.
Join me as we explore the new world of bioinformatics at the intersection of biology, data, and programming—one post at a time!
